One of the things the school does to help is sell water bottles as an alternative use.
Another thing the campus has done is put in water fountains that only specifically fill up water bottles. In the upper right hand corner is counts the number of plastic bottles we have kept from using and putting into the environment.
The last thing I found that the campus does to help was recycling. All over campus there are recycling bin for plastic bottles.
The UMD Campus has and is becoming more Green. All over you see different ways recycling bins, new water fountains, and water bottles.
I like this Andrea! The new waterfountains at UMD are so handy and fun to use. It is obvious they are working because I usually have to stand in line to fill my bottle. It is cool that action is backing up our ideas of being environmentally friendly on campus. We have talked about how we shouldn't use as many plastic water bottles and are now doing things to make it easier not to by providing alternatives on campus (selling eco-friendly bottles). I actually feel guilty when I have a disposable water bottle in my posession, which is good :)
ReplyDeleteI love the new water fountains that the school has to make it easier to refill water bottles! I think it would be great if UMD was able to stop selling plastic disposable water bottles but I know that because of contracts that is not currently an option. This reminds me of our advocacy project. Maybe we should talk to the chancellor about the changes we want to see on our own campus!
